Positive psychotherapy is based on three important components:

  1. Principle of hope. Focus on the internal resources that everyone has from birth. It gives the opportunity to believe in one's abilities and take responsibility for what happens in life.
  2. Principle of balance. Here, the life and development of the client are considered in the following areas: body, achievements, contacts, future (dreams, ideals, fantasies). The principle is based on the fact that everyone has an innate desire to restore balance or harmony. If there is a lack in one of the areas, it leads to disharmony and deficiency, which negatively affects life and self-acceptance. It can also cause disappointment in people and the emergence of various illnesses.
  3. Principle of self-help. A five-step model: observation, inventory, situational approval, verbalization, and goal setting. At the beginning of consultations, this is done by the psychotherapist, and then the acquired knowledge and experience are applied in practice by the client.

«Positive psychology» and «positive psychotherapy» – are similar but different concepts.
