«Yaremchuk scores again!» or «Yaremchuk has already scored 21 goals in 4 months!». Just a couple of years ago, Roman Yaremchuk was an ordinary Ukrainian footballer without fantastic prospects, and now he is a successful striker for the Belgian club «Gent». How did he manage to overcome internal limitations and learn to use his physical, mental, and emotional resources so effectively in such a short time?
As it turned out, the club attracts psychologists to work with the players. And the miracles that Yaremchuk is currently creating are not only the result of professional growth but also of personal transformation. As Roman says, «...psychological work on oneself is difficult, but those who do it achieve success...»
I read an interview with Roman Yaremchuk and thought that this information might be useful for those who are going through a difficult period in their lives.

In fact, most people have their internal resource to overcome problems, but with a psychologist, it happens much faster, that's the whole difference) And if we consider time as one of the most valuable resources that depletes every second, then career, achievements, and quality of life do matter on time.
So, where to start? There are 8 key skills, mastering which can achieve excellent results, and since «Sport is a small life», the skills and experience gained in sports will automatically change the quality of life:
- Motivation. It is important to determine the source of motivation. What inspires you to wake up every morning and take small steps toward your goal? Only in this way will you begin to manage your life because you will consciously do what brings you true joy and pleasure. And this is the state of flow with the highest productivity and efficiency.
- Attitude to life. Life is just a combination of choices. And here it's important to follow the rules: gratefully accept victories and defeats as invaluable experiences and the only possible way to move forward; balance between life and sports, find time and energy for all spheres of your life; compete or compare yourself only with yourself, treat yourself, colleagues, and opponents with respect too.
- Commitment to goals. To ensure that the goals inspire, they need to be properly formulated. And there are rules here too: it's important to think not about the result of the game or competition, but about the skills that need to be developed to win; set clear deadlines, regularly track changes, and the most pleasant thing – be sure to celebrate achievements and acknowledge their value.
- Communication. The ability to communicate is an important skill necessary both in life and in sports, especially in a team. And communication skills must be developed and improved. For example, there are methods to improve active listening: ask questions correctly, encourage explanations, paraphrase the words of another person to make sure you understood everything correctly.
- Thoughts. It's important to learn mental discipline and think well of yourself. Track negative or unhelpful thoughts and replace them with positive ones that enhance your productivity and success.

- Energy management. It's important to learn to manage your states and keep a balance between tension and relaxation. If the level of tension or relaxation is too high, it will always affect the result. You need to learn the necessary states through meditation, deep and rhythmic breathing, muscle relaxation, or guided imagery.
- Mental imagery and focus of attention. You need to learn to visualize images and focus on images that enhance efficiency. Also, control your attention, avoid distraction and concentrate on what you are doing or feeling. Learn to restore focus when you lose it in the process. And it's very important to be «here and now» or in the moment, and not let past mistakes, disappointments, thoughts, or feelings about the future overshadow your mind.
- Working with emotions. Engaging in sports, as well as life in general, can evoke strong emotions, including exhilaration, anger, or disappointment. These emotions can easily destroy your plans, but if you accept the fact that emotions are the way our Self tries to tell us something, then reactions to people or events are always a chance to learn something new about yourself and use this information for your development.
This is how the «psychological kitchen» works, where the mystery of rebirth happens)), new thoughts, feelings, and reactions to situations appear, and what used to irritate or upset no longer matters or affects you. New plans, a different attitude towards yourself, people, and life appear. And a person becomes better at what they love and do. Or loves and does what they are the best at.
